GreenPower Motor Company produces a complete line of high-floor and low-floor all-electric medium and heavy-duty vehicles. The EV Star Cab & Chassis is their most popular vehicle and it can be customized to meet a variety of applications. The platform's design philosophy of clean sheets allows for optimal battery pack placement and lower center of gravity resulting in better payload-to-range ratios.
The EV Star REEFERX was designed for mid-to last mile refrigerated deliveries as well as catering applications. The refrigerated trucks in class 4 with a single wall structure inside and a higher insulation level than conventional trucks, allows for seamless sanitation and better temperature control. They also have a longer lifespan. The EV Star REEFERX provides superior capacity for cargo, and an industry-leading payload to reach the range of zero-emission goods or passenger transportation.
GreenPower partnered with Perrone Robotics in order to equip the EV Star with TONY (To navigate you) autonomous vehicle systems that will allow fleets to move to autonomous vehicles. The AV Star will also be capable of wireless charging up to 75 kW.
We had the chance to test the EV9 for a few hours on a local highway and found it to be a breeze to drive and comfortable for long distances. The ride is smooth on ruts and bumps, while the EV9 is a master of suppressing the sound of traffic and wind on the highway. The acceleration is quite quick and the vehicle has adjustable regenerative brakes that allow "one pedal driving" by lifting the accelerator.
The EV9 has excellent range and can be fully recharged in just three hours at home, or using any commercial charger. greenpower mobility can select between two operating modes that include eco mode and sports mode. Eco mode focuses on the torque, cruise control and handling, while sport mode increases speed. Both are fun to drive and offer an experience unlike any other for those who have not driven an electric vehicle before.
In addition to the EV9, GreenPower has several other e-vehicle offerings such as a multi-purpose, all-electric mini bus called the EV Star. The EV Star is ADA compliant and can be utilized as an executive shuttle, micro-transit, transit bus, vanpool, or a paratransit vehicle.
GreenPower is currently producing around 10 EV Star buses per month for the Jacksonville Transit Authority, which is working to replace their fleet of diesel vehicles with 100 electric vehicles. With the Biden Administration looking to electrify school buses across the country, GreenPower plans on ramping up production to meet demand. Their EV Star buses are the first of their kind to be Altoona tested and FMVSS certified, Buy America compliant, and ADA compliant. This will make them eligible for federal transit grants. We will be following the AV Star as it begins its demonstration tour in the coming months. We'll be sure to provide more information on this amazing electric vehicle!
